On the 9th October, during our first PSHE drop down day of the year, our Year 7s completed some valuable First Aid and CPR training. This was part of their Personal Development curriculum on the topic of personal safety. During lessons students identified hazards in different situations from the kitchen to being out with friends. Each student was then given the opportunity to attend a session on CPR and using a defibrillator with.
The CPR and defibrillator sessions were delivered by our very own Mr Cook who is a fully trained advanced First Aider with the St John’s Ambulance. Students were taught how to assess danger, call for help and administer potentially life-saving CPR. Once the teaching and demonstrations were over the students all got the opportunity to put their newly learned skills to the test on life size dummies. Hopefully this will be the only time they will need these skills, but if an emergency does arise our year 7 students will be well prepared!
